Getting Over Ordering Takeout While In Ubud, Bali

It is a privilege to travel. Thus, when Nicole and I are travelling, we often feel guilty if we aren't out seeing and doing things.

Nonetheless, earlier this week, rather than heading out to a restaurant, Nicole suggested ordering takeout. I thought, seriously? Phone our order and have food delivered to our door in boxes like we used to do in New York? Why'd we bother flying half way around the world?

It turned out to be an awesome, memorable night.

As described in my prior post, the Airbnb where we are staying is pretty much perfect and affords spectacular views such as the one below. I doubt we could have found a better dinner vista at a restaurant.

Moreover, two and a half months into our trip, dining out admittedly isn't as fun as it was at the start. We still enjoy eating at restaurants, but a break now and then is a good thing. This past week I stumbled onto a genre of blogs written by "digital nomads," essentially people who work remotely while travelling long term. My favorite is Never Ending Voyage, written by a younger English couple who have been on the road for over seven years with nothing but carry-on luggage. Reading their stories made me feel less guilty about things like occasional takeout dinners inasmuch as I realized that I am not the only one who gets tired of restaurant eating after months living out of a duffel.

Dessert course!

Over a platter of Indian appetizers and a shared chicken burrito, we stayed up late (which for us was about 9 p.m.) talking about things other than travel planning details without once being interrupted by restaurant staff. In a creative flourish, Nicole even plated our dessert restaurant style as show in the picture above.

We had such a good time that, a few days later, I was inspired mid-afternoon to ask Nicole if she was up for takeout that night. She was!

"This night was so fun, I should write a blog post about it -- we just need a selfie"
