Sauternes is the sweet wine capital of Bordeaux. If you have limited time in Bordeaux, this would be a candidate to skip. However, if time is not a concern, this makes for a fun day trip and something different from the red wines of the area.
A First Growth per Bordeaux's 1855 classification, this small, family run winery has charm to spare. The winemaker met us upon our arrival and led us through a super fun tasting of his wines. Also, the best winery dogs of any place we visited, the four friendly pooches roam the premises and add to the fun.
Chateau Rabaud-Promis' neighbor, for much of the twentieth century these wineries were owned by the same family (indeed we were able to drive a dirt path between the vines to get from one to the other). Another great tour and tasting. Particularly fun to see the famed neighbor, Chateau d'Yquem, on a hill overlooking these properties.
