Located south of Santiago, the Colchagua Valley is one of Chile's more well known wine regions and home to prestigious, large scale wineries such as Casa Lapostolle and Montes. Despite this, Nicole and I found it difficult to book winery visits or tastings inasmuch as wine tourism is still in its beginning stages. It was frustrating to drive by countless vineyards we couldn't access. On the flip side, it is a beautiful area and a wonderful drive even if you only book a minimal number of winery visits.

Please, please, pretty please, do not visit the Colchagua Valley without booking a visit at Viña Los Vascos. One of the undisputed highlights of our time wine tasting in Chile. Owned by the same family behind Bordeaux's world renown Lafite Rothschild wines, this winery is situated in a stunning lush valley and produces affordable yet delicious wines. A large part of our visit consisted of driving around in a pickup truck with our host touring the vineyards and learning about the wines. A wonderful experience.
