Situated on the "right bank" of Bordeaux's wine region, Saint-Émilion is famous for its Merlot-based wines. We loved our visit to the area, largely due to the tour and tasting at Chateau Bernateau.

1. Chateau Bernateau
One of our favorite winery visits in over two months of touring France's wine regions. That is saying a lot. Occasionally, you run into someone whose passion and personality makes a winery tour special. Karine Lavau, wife of winemaker Pierrick Lavau, is one of those people. Friendly, fun, and informative. And the wines were excellent, too.
