Skating On The Ice Ribbon At Riverfront Park In Spokane, Washington

For anyone visiting Spokane, Washington, make sure to visit its newest attraction ... an ice skating ribbon in the downtown area. Unless you don't like fun, you won't be disappointed!

Spokane is a small city with a population of approximately 400,000 tucked away in eastern Washington near the Idaho panhandle. It's where Nicole and I attended college and lived for four years after, and where I look forward to visiting any chance I get.

One of the newest things happening in Spokane right now is an ice ribbon that opened in December 2017 in Riverfront Park in the downtown area. Spanning approximately 650 feet and costing nearly $10 Million, it is the talk of the town!

One of the benefits of having a sister who works in City Hall across the street from Riverfront Park is that Nicole and I were able to meet her after work one night in early January to check out Spokane's newest attraction. Having spent the evening shakily making laps around the meandering ribbon, I can now say ... well done, Spokane! The ice ribbon is a hit!

The video we shot above provides a glimpse of the ice ribbon. Apologies for the shaky footage. I am a novice skater! :)

At $11 per adult for admission (which includes skate rental), the ice ribbon is a steal of a deal. We had a great time sharing the ice with kids, grown ups, and everyone in between. Rather than skate in circles as we've done before at ice rinks, the ribbon, with a slightly undulating slope, makes the laps more entertaining and enjoyable.

After an hour, our legs and ankles were shot. We headed off into the Spokane evening, smiles on our faces.
